“LA CATRINA is an homage to “Mexicanidad” and to the years I lived in Mexico as a young girl - Mexican art and culture has influenced and continues to inspire, my creative work. La Catrina, the elegantly dressed skeleton who is a famous symbol of Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead in Mexico), has given name to and is also the figurehead of my new exhibition, which opens in time for the All Saints’ and Día de los Muertos weekend.” -Caroline Freudenthal
LA CATRINA was an exhibition in three parts:
STREET ART MARKET
“Ex-votos” and “Retablo” pieces inspired by Mexican mythology and street art.
OFRENDA ART INSTALLATION
Together with visitors to the exhibition we created an “Ofrenda” - an altar where candles are lit in memory of passed near and dear ones, during the All Saints’ and Día de los Muertos weekend.
ART EXHIBITION
Some thirty abstract pieces of my artwork were on display, several of them inspired by “Mexicanidad.”
